NEW MEXICO MUSEUM OF ART

Peter Sarkisian: Video Works, 1994-2011

Juxtaposing projected video and physical objects, Peter Sarkisian's installations explore the intersection of moving image and sculpture. Underlying Sarkisian’s hybrid form of installation is a commentary on the ubiquity of the moving image —whether in television, movies, or video games. This small retrospective presents Sarkisian’s work spanning 18 years.
// Exhibition dates: May 3-August 18

NEW MEXICO MUSEUM OF ART

Shiprock and Mont St. Michel: Photographs by William Clift

For almost four decades, Clift has photographed two monolithic sites that dominate their expansive landscapes: Shiprock, an eroded volcanic form that rises above the northwestern New Mexico desert and is sacred to the Navajo (Diné), and Mont St. Michel, a tidal island off the north coast of France that is famous for its Romanesque-Gothic church and monastery.
// Exhibition dates: April 19-September 8

UNM ART MUSEUM, Van Deren Coke Gallery

Martin Stupich: Remnants of the First World

We build and shape our landscapes and terrains to suit both our physical and emotional desires but not without consequences. This exhibition of Review Santa Fe alum Martin Stupich's work he has explored since the 1970s. These images of some of our most ambitious, often permanent structures are breathtaking to behold and pose questions about what we are leaving behind.
// Exhibition dates: February 19-July 13

UNM ART MUSEUM, Main Gallery

Bound Together: Seeking Pleasure in Books

Includes 19th-century photographic albums to limited edition and unique artist books, elaborately illustrated works of literature, unusual pop-up books, mediaeval manuscript facsimiles and architectural folios, to name just some of the objects in the exhibition. The dichotomy that books present is that they are simultaneously private objects meant to be held in one’s hands and read often in private, yet are also objects mass produced.
// Exhibition dates: February 9-July 13
